ONATARIO (PNP)

    Home ONATARIO (PNP)

     

    OINP works in partnership with the Government of Canada through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to recognize, select and nominate people for permanent residence who have the skills, technical expertise and experience the Ontario economy needs. The Government of Canada makes the final decision on admissibility and approve applications for permanent residence.

    OINP has several streams some of which are as follows;

    • Employer job offer category: for workers who already have a permanent job offer from an Ontario employer
    • Human capital category: for workers who have valuable work experience, education, language skills, and a profile in Canada’s Express Entry system; or for graduate students
    • Business category: for entrepreneurs looking to start a new or buy an existing business in Ontario
    • human capital category has two sub-categories,
      • the international graduate streams and
      •  Ontario’s Express Entry streams

    Employer job offer category

    The employer job offer category has three streams. Applicants must have a full-time and permanent job offer from an Ontario employer to qualify.

    • Foreign Worker stream: for workers in skilled positions
    • International Student stream: for recent graduates in Ontario
    • In-Demand Skills stream: for intermediate skilled workers in specific sectors, such as agriculture, construction, trucking and personal support workers

    Human capital category

    The Masters Graduate or PhD Graduate streams, are for those international students who have a graduate degree from an eligible Ontario university. They must apply within two years of getting their degree.

    Ontario’s Express Entry

    Ontario’s Express Entry streams are for those who have received a notification of interest from Ontario and have an up-to-date profile covering their most current work experience, language tests and education in the federal government’s Express Entry system.

    French-Speaking Skilled Worker stream: is for French-Speaking skilled workers with the required work experience, education and language proficiency in French and English; requirements is same as human capital priorities stream.

    Human Capital Priorities stream: is for skilled workers with the required work experience, education and language proficiency in French or English and have the following; FSW

    • at least one year of continuous paid full-time work experience (or the equivalent in paid part- time work) in Skill Type 0 or Skill Level A or B
    • work experience must have been
    • obtained within the last five years from the date of submitting your application to the OINP
    • in the same primary occupation as you identified in your Express Entry profile
    • no breaks in employment over a one year period

    Canadian Experience Class

    • at least one year of cumulative paid full-time work experience (or the equivalent in paid part-time work) in Canada in Skill Type NOC 0 or Skill Level A or B
    • obtained within the last three years from the date of submitting your application to the OINP
    • in one or more of the occupations that you identified in your Express Entry profile
    • in Canada while maintaining legal status in Canada
    • your work experience must have been obtained over a period of at least one year – work experience totaling 1,560 hours obtained in less than one year period does not qualify
    • full-time work experience means working in a job with at least 30 hours of paid work in a week that amounts to at least 1,560 hours of paid work in one year
    • must have a Canadian bachelor’s, master’s or PhD degree or its equivalent in another country.
    • approved English or French language test before submitting application to this stream.
    • The test must be no more than two years old at the time of application submission.
    • have enough money to support yourself and your dependent family members when you settle in Canada.
    • must intend to live in Ontario after being granted permanent residence.
    • must have legal status (visitor record, study permit, or work permit) at the time of application and should maintain that status until the time of nomination.
    • If applicant choose to be assessed against the FSWP, must score at least 67 points on the six selection factors (education, language skills, work experience, age, arranged employment in Canada and adaptability)

    Skilled Trades stream: is for workers with work experience in Ontario in an eligible trade occupation. Eligibility requirements-Applicants must have

    • at least one year of cumulative paid full-time work experience (or the equivalent in paid part-time work) in Ontario in a skilled trade that is listed in Minor Group 633 or Major Groups 72, 73 or 82 of the National Occupational Classification (NOC)
    • obtained experience within the last two years from the date of submitting their application to the OINP
    • in one or more of the occupations Applicants identified in their Express Entry profile
    • obtained in Ontario while maintaining legal status in Canada
    • working in a job with at least 30 hours of paid work in a week that amounts to at least 1,560 hours of paid work in one year
    • working in one job for at least 15 hours per week for two years that amounts to at least 1,560 hours in that two-year period, or
    • working in more than one job for at least 30 hours per week for one year that amounts to at least 1,560 hours of paid work in that one-year period
    • applicants claiming work experience in a compulsory trade, even if no longer working in the trade, must have a valid certificate or license in Ontario at the time you apply.
    • be living in Ontario and hold a valid work permit at the time you apply.
    • You are not required to have a job at the time you apply.
    • be able to understand, read, write and speak either English or French at a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 5 or higher
    •  must have enough money to support yourself and your dependent family members when you settle in Canada
    • must intend to live in Ontario after you’re granted permanent residence

    Business category

    The applicant must be an entrepreneur from outside of Canada who is looking to implement a new business idea or buy and grow an existing business in Ontario. It gives an entrepreneur (and up to one foreign national business partner) the opportunity to be nominated for permanent residence once their business has been established in Ontario.

    Requirements

    • Applicant(s) must have a viable business that is likely to provide material economic benefit to the economy of Ontario as a whole or to the local Ontario economy where the business will be located. PA and one business partner (if applicable) must both meet the eligibility requirements.
    • business purpose must be to make a profit from active income through the sale of goods and/or services.
    • business must be permanent. Project-based and seasonal businesses not eligible
    • must have at least 24 months of full-time business experience in the last 60 months as a business owner or as a senior manager (business management). As a business owner applicant must have had an active role in the business and owned at least one-third of the business. As a senior manager applicant must have had senior decision-making responsibilities in the business.

    Verifiable Net worth

    • within the Greater Toronto Area (City of Toronto and Durham, Halton, York and Peel regions) applicant must have a minimum net worth of 800,000 CDN.
    • outside of the Greater Toronto Area applicant must have a minimum net worth of $400,000 CDN.
    • within the Greater Toronto Area, applicant must make a minimum personal investment of $600,000 CDN and control at least one-third of the equity in the business
    • outside of the Greater Toronto Area, applicant must make a minimum personal investment of $200,000 CDN and control at least one-third of the equity in the business
    • If your proposed business is in the information and communications technology/digital communications sector then regardless of location, applicant must make a minimum personal investment of $200,000 CDN and control at least of one-third of the equity in the business.
    • must be actively involved, on an ongoing basis, in the management of the business.
    • primary purpose of investing capital in the business must be to make a profit.
    • you must create at least two permanent full-time jobs for Canadian citizens or permanent residents if business located in GTA.
    • If located outside the Greater Toronto Area or in the information and communications technology or digital communications sector, regardless of location, applicant must create at least one permanent full-time job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Jobs must be created within the first 20 months of establishing or acquiring the business, must be filled continuously for at least 10 months and must be paid at the median wage level for the position.

    If applicant plan to purchase an existing business:

    • applicant must make at least one business-related visit to Ontario within 12 months from the date of registering an Expression of Interest
    • the business being purchased must have been in continuous operation by the same owner(s) for the previous 60 months
    • ownership of the business must be completely transferred to the applicant or any business partner
    • applicant must use at least 10% of your personal investment towards improving or expanding the business in Ontario
    • applicant must keep all permanent full-time employees that worked in the business prior to the transfer of ownership
